During
March, trestles arrived from Southend with the intention of being used to
replace existing trestles holding the aircraft which were deteriorating.
Before
any work was done on them, they were examined to establish which sections
of the fuselage each would be suitable for. They were then moved next to these
positions, as can be seen in the photos below.
To
begin with, any piece of carpet or foam attached to the top of the
trestles was removed. This was achieved using a hammer and screwdriver. Next those
trestles fitted with a metal base had these areas rubbed down followed by
applying a rust inhibitor and primer where necessary. Once this had dried, these areas could then be
painted along with the rest of the underside. The trestles were then placed under the
aircraft in the appropriate areas, to better support the aircraft and replaced
any failing trestle.
